Vanuit improvisatie werd geleerd om accuraat om te gan met de geëlectrofiëerde akoestische instrumenten en met synthesizers. Synths hadden een dubbele rol: enerszijds electronische klanken produceren en anderszijds klanken van akoestische instrumenten transformeren. Bandopnemers werden gebruikt om fragmenten van opnamen die tijdens de improvistie werden gemaakt, te hergebruiken in latere stadia van de uitvoering, al dan niet gemanipuleerd voor transpositie, omkeringen, transformatie of als herhalingsfragment.
